Introduction
Traditional medicine is still practiced all over the world, despite the presence of modern medicine. There is no denying that the roots of modern medicine are strongly linked to traditional medicine. Drugs commonly used in modern medicine, such as aspirin, have their roots in traditional medicine. As a result, "medication errors" similar to those seen in modern medicine can also occur in traditional medicine.
Chinese traditional medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, and Islamic traditional medicine are commonly practiced in Malaysia and worldwide. Herbs, plants, animal products, and heavy metals, which may be used as part of treatment, could pose a risk of toxicity to the patient. In Malaysia, the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division, under the purview of the Ministry of Health, monitors and regulates these practices.
